Rome--Jan. 23--Italian consumer confidence rose for a second successive month in January as consumer expectations regarding the general economic outlook over the next 12 months rebounded from a September low, the ISAE economic think-tank said on Tuesday. Its consumer confidence index, a key leading indicator for the Italian economy, rose to 120.4 from 119.4 in December.
* * * The final January reading confirms the rebound in sentiment on the general economy, but consumers were more negative about their household economic situations and cautious regarding purchasing intentions, ISAE said.
Consumers saw a further improvement in the general economic situation in Italy with the balance being -25 versus -33 in December while expectations over the next twelve months went up strongly, with a balance of 4 versus -3 in the previous month.
